The 1947 Taekwondo Summit

on Mon, 03/31/2014 - 18:23

Many Koreans attempted to revitalize curiosity in the original martial art of Subak (Tae Kwon Do) and in 1947 a summit was held to talk about the advancement of the-art and also the consolidation of the different 'kwans' or universities. Taekwondo gyms started opening all through Korea and once again the style found recognition. The Korean Tae Kwon Do Association was formally formed in 1961 as a way to encourage Taekwondo worldwide and several Masters traveled to foreign lands.

Tae Kwon Do was recognized as the official Olympic activity in September 1994, after showing as a demonstration

Karate Stuff For My Kids

on Tue, 02/04/2014 - 01:57

I was not sure what to get my son for his birthday. He has been fascinated with the old 80's karate kid movie. He has watched it at least 8 times in the past 6 weeks. Not sure what the attraction is to him but I decided to get him a replica costume from the movie. It was not too hard to find but what was hard to find was one that didn't cost an arm and a leg. I got one at http://www.realninjacostume.com/costumes/karate-kid-costume-set/. Only cost me about $30 with shipping. My wife was happy about that. So now that my son has the costume he runs around the house yelling and kicking.

Te - Karate

on Sat, 01/25/2014 - 21:46
It wasn't generally referred to as  karate . For hundreds of years, Okinawa's native fighting art was regarded just as te , or hand. There have been a variety of sub-systems and family techniques, most of them top secret. There is very little question there presently exists even now secret family techniques that haven't been discovered even today. Through the years, the 3 places --China, Japan, and Okinawa all traded, and Okinawa acquired martial information from The southern area of The far east, as mariners and travelers from the two nations traded information and methods.

How I plan on Displaying my new belt

on Fri, 01/03/2014 - 20:18

I am often asked how long I have been training in the martial arts... and I will say about 2 years and then they will ask where are all my belts. I then have to explain to them that I keep them in my closet :( So I decided to get something that I can display my karate belts. There are a lot of different plaques and things to use but I found a place that has some specifically for the martial arts: http://www.karatebeltholders.com/displays/belt-displays/

From there I will eventually order a really nice ornate one when I earn my black belt.

Why I Train in Martial Arts

on Mon, 12/09/2013 - 20:39

I have often told my wife that I enjoy my training as it helps keep me fit and active. If it were not for my martial art classes all I would do is sit around at home at night watching TV. Now don't get me wrong I have no problem watching TV after a hard days work but doing that every night would make me feel little bit sluggish.

Taking these classes I feel like I have more energy throughout the day. Even though their are days when I do not want to go to class. But on those days is when I force myself to go because I know I will feel better after class and be happy I went.
